What we collect
Nothing, by default. CholScore doesn't require an account, doesn't have a server, and doesn't collect or transmit your food logs, exercise history, blood test results, photos, or any personal health information. Everything you enter — meals, workouts, weight, goals, achievements, test results — is stored on your device, in your device's local storage. If you choose to turn on automatic iCloud backup, a copy is also kept in your own iCloud account, as explained under Backups below.
Camera and photo access
CholScore asks for camera access for two things only: scanning food barcodes for quicker logging, and scanning a blood test letter in My Results. If you prefer, you can choose a photo of your test letter from your photo library instead. CholScore only sees the photo you pick, not the rest of your library.
Everything is read on your device. For barcodes, only the product code is used, to look up the food (see Third-party food data below). For test letters, Apple's built-in text recognition reads the letter on your iPhone, and only the numbers you confirm are saved to My Results. The images themselves are never stored, saved or transmitted anywhere.
Apple Health
With your permission, CholScore reads your steps and supported workouts from Apple Health so they can count towards your daily score. This information is used only within the app on your device. It is never sent to us, never shared with third parties and never used for advertising. You can change or remove CholScore's access at any time in your iPhone's Settings, under Privacy & Security › Health › CholScore.
My Results
If you choose to use My Results, the blood test numbers you enter or scan (such as cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides), along with any dates, notes and reminders you add, are stored only on your device. If you've turned on automatic iCloud backup, they're included in the backup in your own iCloud account, as with the rest of your data. They are never sent to us, never shared with third parties and never used for advertising. The explanations shown in My Results are worked out on your device. They are general information, not medical advice. You can edit or delete any result at any time.
Backups
CholScore offers two optional ways to back up your data. Both are off unless you choose to use them, and neither sends your data to us.
- Automatic iCloud backup. When turned on, CholScore automatically saves a copy of your data to your own iCloud account. The backup is stored by Apple under your Apple Account and protected by Apple's iCloud security. We have no access to your iCloud account or to the backup, and Apple's privacy policy applies to how iCloud stores it. You can turn automatic backup on or off, and manage your iCloud and local backups, at any time in CholScore's settings.
- Manual backup file. You can export your data to a file whenever you like. This file is created and controlled entirely by you — where you save it, whether you keep it, and who has access to it are your decisions. We never see or receive a copy.
Subscriptions (CholScore+)
If you choose to purchase CholScore+, that purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store, and subscription status is verified using RevenueCat, a third-party service that manages in-app purchases. RevenueCat receives:
- Your purchase and subscription status (for example active, expired or cancelled).
- A randomly generated, anonymous identifier for your installation of the app — not your name, email or personal information.
RevenueCat does not receive your food logs, exercise data, photos or any other health information — that data is never sent to RevenueCat or to us. You can read RevenueCat's privacy policy.
New subscribers get a 2-week free trial. You can cancel at any time in your Apple Account settings before the trial ends and you won't be charged.
Third-party food data
When you search for or scan a food item, CholScore may query Open Food Facts, a free, open database, to retrieve nutritional information. This is a lookup only — no personal data is sent as part of that request beyond the product barcode or search term itself.
Data deletion
Deleting the app deletes the data stored on your device. If you have used automatic iCloud backup, that backup stays in your iCloud account until you remove it, which you can do from CholScore's backup settings before deleting the app, or from your iCloud storage settings on your iPhone (Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage). Any manual backup files you exported remain wherever you saved them. There's no account to close and no CholScore server copy to request removal of, because none exists.
Children's privacy
CholScore is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
